Pillars of Support when things are going great, and ESPECIALLY when things aren’t so great

Lately, I have been in an “evaluation mode” - sitting back and trying to be an observer of my own life, assessing and getting perspective as I have been riding the waves of some big shifts, in both personal and professional lives.

Where all of these shifts and changes are for the good, heck, they are for the great, its not to say they don't come with some difficulty, as all change can be a stress' and some of these are big ones.

The Universe sends us hints,  gentle messages that its time to renew, time to step into a different arena or a completely different direction. And if we don't listen, or continually ignore, then the gentle messages become not so gentle, and then we are then hit upon the head with a Universal 2 X 4. (more on this in an upcoming post- stay tune :) )

And its wild how it came about.

Two weeks ago I banged my head at work, received a laceration and a mild concussion. Who new pharmacy could be such a dangerous profession. lol

The thing was, when I came out of it, I had a shift in perspective about my job. Instead of living in a state of looking for security, I began to see myself beyond the job, not needing it for security, and doing things much bigger, more rewarding and beneficial to me and countless others.

In a following conversation, I shared that I felt I would soon be leaving my job, or my job would soon be leaving me. It was just a feeling, a tweak in perception...leaving bread crumbs to what the horizon holds.

You know the idea of “when I will accomplish ___ goal I will feel ____”

Well, I have learned there are three big problems with this…

  • The “one day someday,” hardly ever comes...
  • The action comes before the feeling...when it should be the other way around
  • This focuses on goal achievement, not systems.

Instead, discover your core desired feels, and create a system which you can ride upon those Core Desired Feelings (ala Danielle Laporte, AND, Scott Adams is the one who alerted me to focus on systems over goals.

So then it occurred to me- I have a system, actually I call it a ritual, and ways of being which I impart to my daily living schedule, for my health, wellness of mind and of body- and like many of us- when times aren’t going so free and easy- often I might allow one (or more) of these pillars to fall to the wayside just at a time when I really need them.

So, I wanted to share with you what I consider my core Pillars to Health and Wellness of both Mind and Body,

  • Nourish- as in the foods we eat and the supplements we take.
  • Move- as in don’t be sedentary, impart a balance of exercise to support strength, flexibility, mobility and cardiovascular endurance.
  • Rest- as in balance, rest and repair, meditation, breathing, naps, sleep, and mindfulness.
  • Connect- as in to people, places, things, a higher power and purpose.
  • Create and play- as in to let go, flow, step into the right brain, manifest, go beyond structure and limitations.
  • Serve- as in to recognize the collective, share your gifts, volunteer, no matter how big or how small. "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?"- Martin Luther King Jr
  • Inspiration- as in to fill your brain, direct your emotions, and set your course for positive movement for the day ahead

In future posts I will delve more into each of these pillars and to share with you how they can easily be implemented for health and for wellness.

What pillars do you have as a safeguard, to help protect and guide you through the sunny days and turbulent waters?
